There is a secret to burning belly fat. Unfortunately, this secret may not make you happy. The secret is that there is not a fast way to loose the fat off of your tummy.

In a way, this should actually make you feel better. While you still need to lose that belly fat, you can focus on your overall health and weight. Thinking this way will help you avoid those so-called quick weight loss solutions that really only help you loose water weight or invest in products that make false claims.

There is some good news. Typically, people lose weight from their stomachs before losing weight from any other part of their bodies. This means that if your fat is located in that roll along your stomach, you may see a decrease in fat in your belly before you see fat loss in other areas of your body.

So, how should you approach loosing that belly fat overall? Eat a well balanced, low fat diet rich in whole grains, fresh fruit and fresh vegetables. Eat three servings of fish every week. Vary your foods so that you don't get bored and so that you cover all of your nutritional needs. In addition, avoid eating processed foods, cut back on your alcohol consumption, put away the salt shaker and take sugary foods off of your everyday food list.

In addition to eating better, incorporate an exercise program into your life that includes aerobic exercising as well as weight lifting. Like the foods that you eat, vary your exercises so that you don't get bored.

However, this is not an excuse to avoid sit-ups. Sit ups and other abdominal exercises will strengthen those muscles and give your stomach a tighter appearance after you lose your extra weight.

Eating a good diet and exercising on a regular basis will not only help you reduce your belly fat, it will also improve your health overall.
