Take a Detox Bath

By: Julie Knapp

If you want to detox your body, you should know that a cleanse shouldn't stop with your diet. The hot water of a bath brings toxins to your skin's surface; as the water cools, it can help draw the bad stuff out. So take a detox bath to help your body release buildup both internally and externally. Here, two of our favorite ways to soak away toxins.

Detoxifying salt soak
One basic bath that's easy to do at home is a salt soak. Fill your tub with warm water, 2 cups baking soda, 1 cup Epsom salts, 1 cup sea salt and 1 tablespoon vegetable glycerin. If you want the added benefit of a relaxing essential oil, add a few drops of lavender or ylang ylang to the bath. Then sit back, relax and soak for 15 to 20 minutes. Epsom salts cause you to sweat; sea salt helps you relax and unwind. You can also scrub your skin with soap or mix some sea salt with your shower gel on a washcloth and use the exfoliating combination to slough away dead skin cells - cleansing and detoxification go hand in hand.

Ginger bedtime bath

Ginger has natural cleansing and relaxing powers to this is a good way to detox your body before bed. Run a hot bath and add 1/8 cup of either grated ginger root or ground powdered ginger from the spice rack. Sit in the bath for 40 minutes if you can. The ginger will start to make you sweat halfway through, which helps remove the toxins from your body. Even after you get out of the bath you can expect to continue to sweat for an hour or so - but this is a good thing because it's your body's way of cleansing from the inside.
