Alternative health practitioner and naturopath Stanley Burroughs developed the lemonade detox diet, otherwise known as the Master Cleanser Diet, to detox your body by drinking lemonade. The purpose of this diet is to detox your body by removing toxins from your kidneys, muscles, joints and digestive system while helping your bloodstream to return to a healthy flow.

While you can purchase ready-made products to use on this diet, you can put together most of the drinks that you will need by yourself. When you get up in the morning, drink a quart of lukewarm water with two measured teaspoons of sea salt. The salt should be uniodized and all of the water that you use should be purified or spring, not tap water. During the day, drink 10 servings of lemonade.
Each serving of lemonade you drink should include one measured cup of water, two tablespoons of fresh lemon or lime juice, two tablespoons Grade B maple syrup and cayenne pepper to taste. For best results, the maple syrup should be organic. Before you go to bed at night, have an herbal laxative tea. This diet should last about ten days.
You may experience side effects such as headaches, hunger, diarrhea, dizziness, vomiting or lack of energy when on this detox diet.
If you are looking to lose weight, know that you will gain a lot of your weight back after you go off this detox, as a good portion of the weight that you lose while on this program is water weight. In addition, this plan will not help you learn how to eat a healthy diet or exercise regularly. If you do try the lemonade detox diet, make sure that you ease back into eating solid foods slowly.
Consult your health care practitioner before you try this or any other detox diet. It is extremely important to see your doctor if you have existing health problems before starting on this diet, as this diet can exacerbate your condition.
