The Famous Grapefruit Diet Meal Plan

Weight Loss-8

The Grapefruit Diet Meal Plan centers on the “infamous” grapefruit. The thought process behind the Grapefruit Diet Plan is that an ingredient in grapefruit, combined with protein, burns fat. Most versions suggest that you will lose 10 pounds in 12 days.

Grapefruit diet menu plan
For breakfast, you can eat two eggs cooked any style, two pieces of bacon and one half of a grapefruit or four to eight ounces of unsweetened grapefruit juice. Lunch consists of any kind of meat that you would like in any quantity, a salad with the type of dressing that you prefer and either one half of a grapefruit or four to eight ounces of unsweetened grapefruit juice. At dinnertime, you can enjoy vegetables, meat or fish prepared any way that you wish and, yes, that grapefruit. The only snack that you are allowed is after dinner, either an eight ounce glass of skim milk or tomato juice.

Keep in mind that you can’t eat any type of vegetable that you would like. Stay away from potatoes and sweet potatoes. Some versions also ask you to avoid peas, corn and beans. However, you can use as much butter as you like. In addition, some versions of this plan suggest that you cut back on coffee and caffeine, while others allow you to drink as much coffee as you would like.

You must eat the fats in this diet, such as the fats included in bacon, for the diet to work. If you would like to continue this diet, you should take off two days before starting the next 12 day program.

The effectiveness of the grapefruit diet plan
Grapefruit in and of itself is a pretty amazing food. Low in calories and sodium, grapefruit is high in vitamin C and fibers. Scientists agree that grapefruit is healthy and can be included in any balanced diet.

However, the grapefruit diet plan may not be a healthy choice for long term weight loss. For one thing, some versions of this diet do not encourage exercise. In addition, the diet itself can be monotonous over the long run. This diet does not encourage learning overall healthy, balanced eating habits. Finally, there is no scientific support that shows that grapefruit has an ingredient that contributes to fat burning.

If you do decide to try the lemonade diet, keep in mind that you may regain much of the weight that you have lost after you return to your regular diet as you will be losing more water weight than fat weight.
