Whole grains are important for many reasons and are an essential part of any healthy diet. Bleached white bread is mostly sugar anyway, and sugar turns to fat with relative ease. Whole grains are also rich in fiber, which is Mother Nature's scrub sponge for the body.

Fruits and vegetables
The key to eating healthy fruits and vegetables is first, to actually eat them, and second, to eat ones low in sugar. It's also about eating a balanced variety of fruits and vegetables to give you a complete supply of fresh vitamins and minerals. The biggest key is usually to eat fresh fruits and vegetables, not canned or prepackaged ones.

Water
Regardless of the type of diet you're on, water is always important. The fluid helps hydrate your body and flush out toxins to keep it in optimal working condition. The general rule is that you should have an eight ounce glass of water at least eight times a day.
