Are you trying to lose weight fast? Have you considered trying a low carb diet program? While the jury is still out on how healthy or effective low carb diets are, there are plenty of fans who swear by them and plenty of low carb diet plans to choose from. All low carb diets operate on the premise that if you reduce the number of carbohydrates you consume, you will lose weight quickly.

Atkins Diet
The Atkins Diet follows a low carb protein diet and tells you that if you eat high protein and high fat and keep your carbohydrate intake as low as you possibly can, you will lose weight and maintain that loss long term. An ideal Atkins Diet meal is a steak on the grill and a ceasar salad-minus the croutons.

Stillman Diet
The Stillman diet is much like the Atkins diet only it limits you to eating low fat protein and does not allow butter, oils or dressings of any kind. Eggs and non-fat cottage cheese are allowed, as are diet soft drinks, tea and coffee without sugar. The Stillman Diet also recommends you eat six small meals a day as part of the diet plan.

Scarsdale Diet
This diet plan is a very specific plan which promises rapid weight loss of a pound a day. The diet requires you to eat low carb, low calorie foods and drink lots of water for 7-14 days. The plan dictates exact meals (only three a day, with no snacking) and is very high in lean protein and very limited consumption of specified fruits and vegetables. It also encourages the use of herbal appetite suppressants.

Ketogenic Diet
The ketogenic diet was first designed to help children who have overwhelming seizures due to epilepsy. Every meal consists of four times more fat than carbohydrate or protein, forcing the body into believing it is starving and burning fat in your body. For some reason, this helps children have fewer seizures, and some overweight adults have tried using this plan for weight loss purposes. This is a very difficult diet to follow which severely limits calories and portion sizes.

The Zone Diet
The Zone Diet teaches that you must maintain a strict ratio of fats to proteins to carbohydrates in your daily diet in order to lose and maintain a healthy weight. It claims that if you consume 30% protein, 30% fat and 40% carbohydrates, you will reset your metabolism to a healthier, higher burning level which will result in a slimmer, sleeker you.
