Making Soy Coffee Mug Candles

Making soy coffee mug candles are the perfect centerpiece accents to have at home while entertaining. These soy wax candles fill any room with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee or any other delicious fragrance. They also serve as great gifts to share with friends and family who are looking for something unique.

What You’ll Need

  • Soy wax
  • Candle fragrance
  • Candle color
  • Wick
  • Coffee Mug
  • Decorative bows, wires (optional)

Quick and Easy
Soy wax comes in small pellets that are made for votives and containers. Check your wax after purchasing it to see how much fragrance it can hold. These candles tend to be highly fragrant and you don’t want to overdo it with your scent.

You’ll want to start by melting your soy wax. At the same time, place your wick in your coffee mug. Cool the wax to about 100 degrees before adding the candle color and fragrance. Take your wax and pour it into the mug. Allow it time to solidify. Good, old fashioned soap and water will clean up any excess wax after the soy mug is finished. Add decorative bows or strings to the candle, if you are making it as a gift.

Benefits of Soy Candles
The wax used when making these candles is made from the natural wax of hydrogenated soybean oil. The candles actually burn much more cleanly than paraffin candles and are more environmentally friendly. They also last a lot longer than paraffin candles and are more cost effective to make than beeswax candles.

Tips
It’s important to remember that these soy wax mugs are sturdy and made for pouring hot liquids into. Don’t be afraid to pour the hot wax into it, as it’s built for that very purpose. It is up to you which size and shape you’d like for your candle. You can be as creative or traditional as you want to get with it. Some mugs already come with decorative statements such as “Happy Birthday” on them, and might be appropriate for creating your candle depending upon the occasion.
