Games: Newer Not Always Better
What ever happened to the good old days when a family, on a night off with no school or no work would enjoy a peaceful game night? You know that one night a week when a Mom and a Dad and their kids would enjoy a nice game of Scrabble, secretly used to help the children to work on their spelling skills, or a game of Monopoly (Math?). Either way no matter what the game was it was a time for family's to gather together around the table after dinner and enjoy a little friendly competition and talk about the week's events?
Problem is these days you find fewer and fewer board games in people's houses and more and more Video Games. Not even ten years ago, one could walk into the closet of a friend or relatives closet and find it packed from one end to the other with various Board games, from Apples to Apples to Zooloretto. Games that people pulled out and played with friends or family and some basic human interaction. These games were made so that you required at best one other human person to play so that you actually had to talk to them while you were sinking their battleship.
Technology has advanced so much these days that you no longer need another person to play anymore. Monopoly can be played on ones cell phone, you can be playing a game of four by your self. A multilayer game now consists of a game console, a game that requires you all to own a copy of, A head set to talk on (if you feel like communicating) and an Internet connection. Not only is playing that one game now very expensive in comparison to Board Games, You also have no need to leave your house and see your friends because you can do it from your own home.
What the world needs to realize is that just because technology allows us to do it our selves, it does not mean we need to cut out human interaction and do it ourselves.
