Have you ever learned how to make a fork bracelet? Fork bracelets, a spin-off of spoon jewelry, are becoming extremely popular, given the inherently green nature of the jewelry. Fork bracelets are made from leftover forks, just like spoon bracelets are fashioned from discarded spoons. This is a beautiful way to recycle and accessorize at the same time.
Silver forks make the best fork bracelets because the silver can be so easily molded. However, you can make a fork bracelet out of just about any discarded fork. All you need is a vice, an old fork, a pair of pliers, a hammer and a few beads.
The first thing you'll want to do is to hammer the fork such that the metal is distressed, giving the fork some character. You will want to do this on either a concrete floor or on a sturdy work bench. If you don't like a hammered finish, you can leave the fork as is.
Now put the fork in the vice, tines side down. Crank the vice such that it holds the fork steady no matter what you do to it. Using the hammer and the pair of pliers, carefully bend the fork around to form a bracelet shape that will fit on your wrist. Curve it such that the ends almost meet.
Once you've got the right curve in the fork, you'll want to do something with the tines of the fork. This is where you can get really creative. You can hammer the tines flat, bend them, using the pliers, into shapes, such as hearts or curls and even attach beads onto the tines. If you decide to decorate with beads, you will want to cover them in a glaze so the beads will stay put. Now you can slip on your new fork bracelet and celebrate the fact that you are being both environmentally conscious and chic at the same time.
