Would you like to knit mittens, but knitting mitten instructions terrify you? These easy mitten projects are perfect beginning knitter's projects.

Knitting Mitten Instructions No. 1

These mittens are fingerless and will fit practically anybody.

You will need size 6 knitting needles and a large-eye blunt needle. Try a Category 4 medium worsted weight yarn. The gauge is about 19 stitches = 4 inches.

Cast on 33 stitches. Garter stitch until you have a piece of fabric about eight and one-half inches long. If you would like a larger mitten, keep on garter stitching to your desired length. Then, bind off. Make sure that you leave a long tail to use to sew the mittens together.

Thread the tail into your needle. Fold your fabric in half. Sew the mitten together for about two inches and then cut the yarn, leaving a short tail on the mitten. Go up about an inch and start sewing again until you have reached the top of the mitten. The hole is for your thumb.

Weave the ends of yard into the wrong side of the mitten so that the ends won't be seen.

You now have one mitten. Get started on the second one.

Knitting Mitten Instructions No. 2

This is basically the same mitten as No. 1 except you will be using a different knitting needle size. You will still be using the garter stitch and Category 4 medium worsted weight yarn. However, you will use size 8 knitting needles for these mittens. The gauge is 16 stitches = 4 inches.

Cast on 26 stitches. The rest of the instructions are the same as above.

The Garter Stitch

The garter stitch is one of the most basic knitting stitches. You can use this stitch in a number of different knitting projects, including knitting scarves and hats.
