Craps Table Layout

By: Maeve Rich

Being at the craps table for the first time can be overwhelming, especially for a craps newbie. If you can get yourself familiar with the layout of the craps table, you'll do much better in the casino. The craps table is one of the more difficult layouts to get acquainted with, even though placing bets is fairly simple. Here's the basic rundown of the craps table layout:

A craps table is set up exactly the same on both ends, doubling the amount of bets that can be placed at a time. While convenient, this set up can make things even more confusing for the new craps player.

The perimeter of the craps table has a 24-inch wall which helps to keep the dice in play. Around the outer edge of the craps table is the pass line. Along the long end of the table, near the dealers, are the numbers as well as the don't come bar. At each end of the table is the don't pass line. The long end opposite the dealers is where bets can be placed as well as the don't pass bar.

A dealer stands near each end of the table, handling money and betting on their end. You'll have to use the dealer if you want to place a free odds bet. Sitting between the two dealers is the boxman, who keeps an eye on the two dealers. Across from the boxman is a stickman, who keeps an eye on the dice. The stickman can be, at times, a sort of source of entertainment as well. The shooters stand at the short ends of the table.

The best way to fully understand the craps table layout is to spend some time observing the game. Hang back and watch where bets are placed and where the various lines and numbers are. The more you watch the more comfortable you'll get with the craps table layout.
