Percentage Of Catching Your Hand.

By: patrick4531

By now you should already know the basics of poker. In this article you will learn how to figure out the percentage of catching a card to make your hand. OK there is an actual mathematical formula to figure this out.  With this knowledge you will win more pots and be a better poker player.  There are other variables in poker but this will help you out in situations when you are drawing to a hand and there are bets in front of you.

The formula is different on the flop and the turn. On the flop, you figure your outs (an out is a card you can get to make your hand) and multiply that number by four. You're answer will be the percentage that you will catch the card you need. On the turn it decreases. You take your number of outs and multiply it by two. Again your answer is the percentage you will catch the card to make your hand. Let's say you have a king and a jack of diamonds in your hand. The flop comes nine, ten, and four with two of the cards being diamonds. So you have four diamonds and you need a queen to make the straight.  So we know there are thirteen cards to each suit. There are four showing with the two in your hand. That means there are nine left.  That is nine outs, and you need a queen there are four in a deck. That is four more outs, so you have a total of thirteen outs. Thirteen multiplied by four is fifty two. So you have a fifty two percent chance of catching one of the cards you need. That is a good chance so I would stay in the hand. Now say on the turn it is no help to you. You still have thirteen outs, but this time you multiply it by two. So you would have a twenty six percent chance to catch one of the cards you need.

I hope this helps you in your journey to becoming the poker player you want to be. There are many other variables to poker such as implied odds and also sometimes a little luck. Good luck on your poker journey.
