How To Build a Homemade Model Airplane

Looking for ways to build a homemade model airplane without going broke? We've got you covered. In fact, one could even argue building from scratch is both a good way to get started-as it will help you appreciate each individual part-or a good goal to build to once building from a kit grows too mundane. Here are some tips to help your dream take wings. Tee-hee-hee-hee…

Make a Blueprint
It's always a good idea to use a pad and pencil to sketch out what you want the model to look like. If you're really diligent, you'll use graph paper so that you're able to draw an accurate scale drawing. Consult a picture or diagram of the plane you're trying to replicate to ensure that your vision is sound, and also that you've got the right materials in mind to construct each part.

Small Wood
Get a long stick to serve as the "spine" of the plane. It should be one-quarter inch square and must be light and straight grained. Use two pieces bent slightly to a U shape and fastened together at the ends with thread. Nail the planes to the stick with small brads, and you have the basic fuselage along with a couple of wings (making sure that the u-shaped pieces serve as wings. In fact, if you really want to save yourself some time, and have one at your disposal, you could even attach a boomerang to the bottom of the fuselage, as it closely resembles the positioning of a set of wings.

Next
Take some light but firm paper and lay the wire frame upside down on it, cutting around the frame, allowing about a quarter-inch for turning over. Glue the paper along the edges and turn it back over the rim of the plane frame, watching to be sure that it sticks fast. Now, get to work painting the plane.
