How to Build a Model Car

If you want to learn how to build a model car, you'll need more than just the instruction booklet. Here are some easy-to-follow steps for model car building.

1) Pick a large, clean workspace. Try to work away from children, pets and curious friends.

2) Read the instruction manual. Make sure you have all of the parts of the car and all of the supplies you need for construction and decoration.

3) Organize the pieces of the model. Sometimes, it helps to number all the parts and keep a corresponding list next to your workspace. This will keep you from misplacing them or confusing them with other pieces.

4) Use sandpaper to buff the pieces. Sanding will also rid the pieces of any dirt, dust and scratches that could affect the finished look.

5) Apply a primer to the car model pieces. Most primers can be easily sprayed on. The fumes can be strong, so make sure you do this in a well-ventilated area.

6) After the primer has dried, you can paint the pieces. Enamel, lacquer and acrylic paints will all work, though some dry faster than others.

7) Once the pieces are dry, check (and double check) that each part fits together before you apply the glue. If pieces aren't fitting together correctly, you can easily sand or cut them to make them work.

8) Attach pieces together using gel glue. Apply the glue with a toothpick to avoid messes and keep your model looking clean and neat.

9) Allow your car model to dry completely before moving it.

Don't be afraid to stray from the instructions a little. If you want to try different products or colors than what is shown, don't be afraid to get creative! And don't rush during any part of the process. You will need time to finish the project, so be patient. Your car model will look amazing as long as you're careful and thoughtful.
