How to Make a Plush Quillow

A quillow is a combination of a quilt and a pillow. The blanket folds up into a pocket that then becomes the pillow. Quillows can be made in any size and are handy to have on a long car trip or to bring along on a sleepover. They make a great gift, even a baby gift in the appropriate size. A carrying strap is optional, but consider adding one if your quillow accompanies you to a chilly fall football game. Their uses are endless and they are easy to make.

Polar fleece is ideal for making a quillow. There is very little sewing involved, and no quilting. A simple blanket stitch sewn around the edge or some purchased bias edging finishes the project. With such a large selection of polar fleece available, the possibilities are endless. You can also choose to use fabric and batting and do as much or as little quilting on the project as you like. You are in charge and your imagination is your guide.

There are several free patterns available on the Internet for quillows. Simply search for quillow and you'll find them. Also check at your favorite fabric store or craft department for booklets and patterns for a quillow. The sites I have found online offer clear and easy directions for making a quillow, and several also offer diagrams and instructions for folding the quillow.
