If you are getting serious about sewing, set up a sewing room for yourself. Having your own place to sew will make your sewing projects more enjoyable and easier to do. You won't have to haul all of your equipment from place to place and you will have everything at you need at your fingertips.
How to Set Up Your Sewing Room
Setting up your sewing room depends in part on how much room that you have and what your budget is like.
Say that you all that you can dedicate at this point in time is closet space or a small part of a room. At the minimum, you will need your sewing machine, a chair, an ironing board and an iron, a table to use for cutting and some plastic bins or drawer space where you can store your supplies. It might make it easier if that table can be folded to save space when not in use. At least you will be organized and have all of your "sewing stuff" close at hand.
If you have the space to dedicate as your sewing area permanently, put your table and sewing machine next to each other so that you can move back and forth easily.
Now, you are at the point where you have to make some real decisions. How much time are you really going to spend sewing? How's that budget doing? You can almost set up a sewing room as a mini-production facility if you are going to be doing a lot of needlework.
As you add to and change your sewing room, convert that chair to a chair with rollers so that you can glide to your destinations. Arrange your tables in an "L" or "U" shape for easy access. Of course, you are going to want both a cutting and a sewing table. You might want to have drop leaf tables to expand or contract your working space as needed. In addition, you can custom build shelves to hold your fabrics while continuing to keep your "smalls" in those tidy, neat little bins.
