How to Sew Christmas Stockings
Sewing these Christmas stockings is so easy that your children can make their own. First, you will have to draw your stockings pattern to the size and shape that you desire. Remember to take into account that you will be sewing seams into your stockings. Once you have drawn the right stockings for you, you will know how much fabric that you will need.
In order to start the stockings, cut two pieces of fabric using your pattern. Place the two pieces of fabric together with the wrong sides facing out. Then, sew the pieces together. Remember that you don't want to close the top of the stocking. No opening, no Santa Claus.
Next, turn down about a half an inch of fabric and iron flat. Then, hem the fabric into place. This will give your stocking a finished edge on top.
Turn the stocking right side out. Cut a piece of ribbon to form a loop and pin the loop in place inside the stocking on the far side from the toe. Sew the ribbon into place. You will now be able to hang your stockings with care.
Now you can decorate the outside of your stockings. Think bells and bows. Glue your name on the stockings using felt. Add a toe cover and embellish the top of the stocking to match. Use sequins or glitter. This is where you can truly make your Christmas stockings your own.
While you are sewing stockings, why not make some mini-stockings to stuff with candy and small gifts? Your family and friends can then use the stockings to adorn their trees in the years to come. This inexpensive idea is a way to make your Christmas season more personal. Plus, your kids will love to give gifts that they have made themselves.
