Spectacular Birthday Party Ideas for Girls

By: Alice Langholt

When thinking up birthday party ideas for girls, don't limit yourself to the princess party. Whether the party will take place in the home or outside the home, have a theme based on the birthday girl's interests. Incorporate the theme throughout the party, and it will be a success.

The Venue
In the Home. It can be cost-effective to have a birthday party in your home. Even though you are stuck with the cleanup, you have ultimate control over what is going to be purchased and what activities will take place. Girls ages nine or older may choose to have a sleepover party. A sleepover can be great for saving money, as long as you're willing to possibly lose some sleep for one night.

A Party Place. Many venues specialize in children's birthday parties. This plan reduces the work involved. However, pre-packaged parties can be costly, and kids start to get bored with them because so many parents make the same choice. When your daughter receives several invitations to other girls' parties at the same place, it's rerun time.

The Activities
No matter what age the birthday girl is turning, birthday parties should be planned around a theme: Princesses, ballerinas, games or makeovers. Have each category, including crafts, food, entertainment and party favors, relate to the theme.

Craft kits are readily available at discount stores. Decorate most anything with glitter, beads, gel pens or markers, and girls will love it. Add sparkle to a picture frame, take a picture of the party guests, print one for each girl, and you've just made party favors. A craft activity is a fun way to begin a party, and entertainment could be as simple as a party game like Pictionary.

Preteens and Teens
Sleepovers are popular with preteens and teens. Pizza, a movie or two, some junk food and a big room for sleeping may be all they need. Set some rules for absolute bedtime and quiet time, and leave them alone for the most part. Otherwise, ask her what she would like to do to celebrate her birthday, and take it from there.
