Warm weather? Outdoor kids' party? What you need are some water balloon games. Here are three that are just perfect, regardless of the ages of the partygoers. Why not let the grown-ups play, too?
Water Balloon Volleyball
More fun than the basic water balloon toss, this involves a net, and playing volleyball pretty traditionally, but using a nice big balloon half-filled with water for the ball. You might decide to adjust the rules a bit for serving in case the server keeps busting the balloon when hitting it. You could allow for throwing it over the net instead. It's great, squishy, blobby, wet fun. Have a number of extras ready before you start playing as a replacement will be necessary several times!
Water Balloon Hot Potato
Have a nice size water balloon and a bunch of spares ready. Everyone sits in a circle and passes the water balloon around the circle while the music is playing. If you don't have a music player to use, have everyone sing a song together. Make is something simple and short. When the music stops (either by someone stopping the player, or the song being over), whoever is holding the balloon has the balloon burst upon him or her! An alternative for older players is to allow whoever is holding the balloon when the music stops to throw it at another player. Then you start again with another balloon.
Leaky Balloon
For this game, use a water balloon with a pin-sized hole in it, so water is coming out the entire time. Pass the balloon around the circle while the music plays, or a song is sung. When the water runs out, the player holding it is out. He leaves the circle, another balloon with a hole is retrieved, and the game starts again until another player is out. The game continues until one player is left, and wins.
Drip, Drip, Drop
This game is fun with a water balloon. All players sit in a circle on the ground or floor. One player has a water balloon with a hole in it. That player is "it" and circles behind each player saying "Drip" and dripping a drop of water on a player's head, then doing the same for the next player, and the next, until "it" bursts the balloon on top of one player's head and says "Drop!" That player must chase "it" around the circle (similar to Duck-Duck-Goose), and sit back in his spot before "it" sits there. The player left standing is next to be "it."
Looking for some party games for large groups that won't make your guests groan? Party planning for a large group is stressful and, while playing games can be a blast, the wrong games can bring the fun to a screeching halt. |
My son and I just finished making birthday party invitations for his second birthday party. I was astonished at the price of pre-made invitations. I have always made my own greeting cards, rather than pay $3-$6 per card, so I decided that together we could make the invitations for his birthday party. |
