Scavenger Hunt: These birthday party games for kids can be scaled up or down depending on age. Teams of children are given a list of items to find and a time limit to do so. Limit the range to your street, your apartment building, the park or just the backyard. A theme works well too, such as finding objects in nature or a photo scavenger hunt with digital cameras.

Relay Games: Kids party games that require teams to pass along objects from one to the other without using their hands are always a hit. These games require teamwork, and it always helps that teammates can shout out encouragement. Some objects to pass along a relay row are: balloons between the knees, oranges under the chin, plastic beaded necklaces around the neck and a marshmallow on a plastic spoon held in the mouth.

Mystery Mask: This guessing game can be revised for different age levels. Make a variety of blank masks with white paper plates and a paper band stapled to the sides. Have the eye holes and mouth holes already cut out before the party. Allow children to draw the name of a storybook character in secret from a bag, and then decorate the mask accordingly. For the game, children wear the mask and stand up. The masked child takes turns answering yes or no questions as others try to guess who they are. The names can be adapted to any theme, such as princesses, Harry Potter characters or Star Wars characters.

Dance Party: Good birthday party games for kids allow them to get up and move. Teach the children 4 to 6 dance moves, such as flapping arms, a spin and a hip shake. Then link each move to a numbered sign, made of a paper plate and craft stick. When you hold up a number, the children must make the corresponding dance move. Then, turn on some fun pop tunes and choreograph a one-of-a-kind birthday dance. Allow other children to take turns being the "director."

My son and I just finished making birthday party invitations for his second birthday party. I was astonished at the price of pre-made invitations. I have always made my own greeting cards, rather than pay $3-$6 per card, so I decided that together we could make the invitations for his birthday party.
