Boys are energetic and need party games for boys that keep them occupied and moving. They enjoy friendly competition, toys, physical activities and being loud. If you're having a party for boys, games which include a couple of these elements will be a hit. Here are some suggested activities for boys' parties.
AGES 4-6
Piñata (and DIY piñata)
You can get a piñata, fill and hang it. Then, blindfold the first player, give him a stick, light bat, or something to hit the piñata with, (keep everyone else out of the way), and let him have at it. Once the piñata is broken, everyone jumps in to collect the prizes. If you don't buy a piñata, it's really easy to make one using a paper bag. Simply decorate the paper bag, fill it with the candy and prizes you choose, fill further with confetti or shredded colorful paper, and hang it. It's inexpensive and works great.
Pin the Tail on the Donkey (and modifications)
You can get a standard game set from a discount store cheap, or be creative and make your own. Making your own version, however, lets you customize the game. Think "Pin the wheel on Lightning McQueen," "Pin the Web Shooter on Spiderman," or "Pin the Cape on Superman." Draw the picture on a poster board (copy from a picture you could find online or in a comic book), and make the accessory. Put sticky tack or a tape loop (sticky side out) on the back and go for it.
AGES 5-11
Musical Chairs (with variations)
While everyone knows the standard game, you can modify this by using baseball hats (one less than the number of players). Place the hats in the circle, have the kids walk around the circle as the music plays. When the music stops, everyone grabs a hat and puts it on. The player without a hat is out. Take a hat away and continue playing. You can also use different size chairs (beanbags, rocking chair, stool, etc.) to make the game funnier.
Relays (with variations) There are numerous relays you can do at a boys' party. Give everyone a plastic spoon with the handle in their mouth. Have two teams try to pass an object down the line on the spoon. First team that gets the object to the end is the winning team. If it falls, they have to start again from the beginning of the line. Object ideas: marshmallow, wrapped candy, egg, cherry, ice cube. Do the relay over again with different objects. Another relay idea is to have a pile of clothes (different styles are funniest - such as a winter hat, swim goggles, wild tie, and bedroom slippers) at the end of the room. Give each team their own pile. Players race to their team's pile, put on all clothes, run back, remove the clothes, and give them to the next player, who runs to the end of the line, puts the clothes on, and continues. The first team finished is the winning team. Take lots of pictures!
Looking for some party games for large groups that won't make your guests groan? Party planning for a large group is stressful and, while playing games can be a blast, the wrong games can bring the fun to a screeching halt. |
My son and I just finished making birthday party invitations for his second birthday party. I was astonished at the price of pre-made invitations. I have always made my own greeting cards, rather than pay $3-$6 per card, so I decided that together we could make the invitations for his birthday party. |
