Fun Kids Pirate Party Games

A pirate party is a great theme for boys or girls, and dressing up and playing kids pirate party games make it a hit. Have lots of eye patches available, have the kids come in costume and make sure everyone "talks like a pirate," yarrr! Here are some great treasure hunt game ideas for your pirate theme party for kids.

Treasure Maps: Give the kids a treasure map to follow to find clues about where the treasure is located. You can divide the kids into teams or give the whole group one map to follow. There should be pictures on the map with clues, such as "under the red chair" or "behind the curtain." If the kids don't read, use pictures with letters on them. Consider spelling the word "TREASURE" with each letter on one picture of an object in the room. They follow the map to find each letter in turn, which reveals a small prize, puzzle or joke. It can be as intricate or simple as your guest list dictates.

String Trail Treasure Hunt: Take a few roll of yarn. Tie a prize (candy or a bag of little favors) to the end of it. Hide the prize somewhere where it can't be seen easily. Unwind the string, and run it all over the house, such as under chairs or over and around furniture. On the other end of the string, put a note that says "Start here!" Do this with one or more balls of yarn. Then, give the "Start Here" sign to each team. The teams follow their yarn, winding as they go, until they arrive at the "treasure." The first team to find their treasure wins, but both teams get to enjoy their treasures.

Scavenger Hunt: Write clues that lead to each other and place them throughout the scavenger hunt zone. Use poetry, puzzles, jokes or anything creative. Let the kids go from clue to clue to arrive at the treasure. There can be little prizes at each clue station to keep them going to reach the "mother lode" at the end.

Hidden Treasure: This one is easy for smaller kids. Hide a bunch of toys around the yard, or in the house in one room you don't mind getting messy. Give the guests a little bag for their "booty," and let them go search for the hidden treasure items.
