Christmas Poems for Friends

By: Helen Polaski

Christmas poems for friends usually end up sounding corny. But even a corny poem can prove to be just the sentimental note you need when you want to tell a friend you really care.

To create a few Christmas poems for friends, start by opening up your heart. Oftentimes when you pour out your heart, the end result is intrusive and perhaps a little bit too mushy. But if you start by putting down your true thoughts, you can always play them down a bit by adding a bit of corniness to the poem. If you want the poem to be more on the serious side, commit to paper the facts only, with few embellishments. The meaning will come across quite smoothly, even if it still sounds a little corny when read aloud.

Christmas with Friends
C is for the fine company you provide
H is for the hilarious times we've had
R is for the rhythm of our speech
I is for the inspiration you give to me
S is for the silliness I miss when you're away
T is for the trying times we've made it through
M is for the meaning of true friendship
A is for the adoring fan you have in me
S is for the silent times when words are not needed
F is for the fun we always find
R is for the richness of our relationship
I is for the idiocy that keeps us young
E is for emotional times we've shared
N is for your nearness, which I value
D is for your destiny linked with mine
S is for the shoulder I know is always there

Christmas Quotes
If writing a poem for a friend seems a bit much, perhaps you could simply add a well-known Christmas quote to your friend's Christmas gift tag this year. If you're looking for a funny quip, try something from the king of laughs, the late, great Johnny Carson, who is credited with many quotes, including the following:

  • Mail your packages early so the post office can lose them in time for Christmas.
  • The worst gift is a fruitcake. There is only one fruitcake in the entire world, and people keep sending it to each other.

If you're looking for something a little more profound, try this classic from Marjorie Holmes:

  • At Christmas, all roads lead home.

While many Christmas quotes have been uttered by celebrities and famous people, you don't have to be famous to come up with a great quote. Just look into your heart and you'll find the right words.
