Making Easter Baskets for Family and Friends

By: Jennifer Maughan

Give a sweet springtime gift to your friends and family members by creating special Easter baskets containing treats, sweets and loving messages. When you choose a theme for a gift Easter basket, it's easy to fill it with surprises for any age and interest.

Garden Easter Baskets: Bring in spring for the gardener by creating an Easter basket full of goodies. Fill the basket with some new garden tools, garden gloves, wildflower seed packets, vegetable seeds, a watering can and other garden decorations. Stick to a pastel theme for the basket, and tie a big ribbon on the handle.

Cookie Easter Baskets: Everyone loves cookies, especially when they come in frosted Easter shapes. Make your favorite sugar cookie recipe, and cut out cookies using Easter-theme cutters. Frost and decorate accordingly. Make a batch of chocolate chip cookies using multi-colored chips and add to the basket. Nestle all the cookie varieties in Easter grass, and include each recipe on a fancy recipe card. Also include a few Easter cookie cutters as a gift. Enclose the whole basket in colored cellophane wrap secured with a bow.

Photo Easter Baskets: Give grandparents a memorable Easter candy basket with a photo basket. Include framed pictures of grandkids, blank frames, a digital camera or other photo equipment. Pair a disposable camera with tickets to the zoo or local museum for a built-in memory making activity that family members of all ages can enjoy.

Treasure Hunt Easter Baskets: Give older kids a mystery to solve with a treasure hunt basket. Fill it with tools they'll need to follow clues you've set out. Start with a magnifying glass, decoder card, key or other items needed to solve the clues. Put the first clue in a plastic egg, and give them some munchies to eat along the way. Have children take the basket with them so they can gather more egg clues and other knick-knacks they pick up along the way to finding the big treasure at the end, such as a big chocolate bunny or a new children's Bible.
