Expressing thanks properly is an important practice. Etiquette experts indicate that a "thank you" card or note should be given within a few days of receipt of a gift. For wedding gifts, thank you notes should be sent within 3 months of the wedding date (according to Emily Post's Wedding Etiquette Guide). "Thank you" notes are also appropriate and appreciated after an act of kindness or gift of service. Email is not recommended, as it is very impersonal.
