Hostess Gifts For An Extended Stay

By: Caroline Roberts

Whenever you are staying over at someone's house for a day or a few days, it is a good idea to bring a hostess gift. After all, you're going to be crashing in their bed or on their sofa, plus eating their food, so a little present is appropriate.

Flowers. During a regular party, flowers can pose a problem because the hostess has to take time out of planning to find a place to put the flowers. However, for a longer stay, the hostess won't be under as much time pressure. Try to find out what her favorite flower is, or go with gerbera daisies, which are bright and sunny and come in an array of colors.

Bath Products. Give the hostess something she can use, not a knickknack that will take up space. Plus, bath products indicate you realize that you will be using some of hers while you stay over, so you are kind enough to bring a replacement. Aim for variety, and pick up small bottles of lotions, shampoos or soaps of different scents.

A Food Basket. Continuing the idea of replacing what you use, a basket full of food she loves will go over well. If you are arriving from another city, you may also want to bring foods that are typically found only where you live for a special treat.

A Picture Frame. If you would like to give your hostess something more permanent, a picture frame is a good call because your hostess will likely have a photo to put inside, maybe even a photo from your visit.

You can either bring the present with you or send it afterward. The advantage to sending the gift afterward is that you can find out what your hostess might want to have. This way, the present you send will have an even more personal touch.
