Halloween Costumes for Couples

By: Aysha Schurman

Dressing up for Halloween gives you the opportunity to declare your couplehood, combine your senses of humor and share a bonding experience with Halloween costumes for couples.

Popular Costumes
Your basic Halloween costumes for couples can be found at any store selling Halloween items. With a little creativity, many costumes can even be made with relative ease at home.

The most commonly seen themes include Adam and Eve, Romeo and Juliet, Anthony and Cleopatra, Tarzan and Jane, Frankenstein's Monster and Frankenstein's Bride or Barbie and Ken. The basic themes can quickly become boring, though. Keep things interesting by looking for well-known, but not quite so overdone, themes.

For slightly more unique couple costumes, try Bonnie and Clyde, Robin Hood and Maid Marian, Morticia and Gomez Addams, Hermione Granger and Harry Potter, Wonder Women and Superman, Jeannie and Major Nelson, Wilma and Fred Flintstone or Marge and Homer Simpson.

Homemade Costumes
There are also couples costumes that use general themes, not specific characters. These can be ideal ideas if you're creating homemade costumes. Don't forget that store-bought Halloween masks often make homemade costumes look complete.

You can always dress up as a pair of zombies, ghosts, vampires, scarecrows, or aliens. Use some black clothes and white cardboard to create a priest and nun costume. For a real laugh, have a women dress up in a suit and cape as a magician and a man dress up in a sequin cocktail dress as the assistant.

Fun Costumes
If you want to go all out, and at least one person in the couple doesn't mind being potentially uncomfortable, there are many comical costume ideas possible.

Try the classic two person horse where one person stands in front as the horse's front legs and head, and the other stands in back as the rear legs and tail. For a humorous twist, try having one person dress up as the horse and the other as the rider.

Marie Antoinette and her decapitated head is another fun theme. Ideally, one person should be tall and the other short. The tall person is the headless body of Marie, and the shorter person is her decapitated head tucked under an arm. If you need separate costumes, one person can dress up as the body and the other can dress up as her head on a table.
