Halloween Vampire Makeup

You may already have the perfect black cape with a stand-up collar and fangs, but good Halloween vampire makeup can set your costume apart from all the rest. You need to get the perfect ghoulish white of the famous Count and, of course, your hair must be jet-black and slicked back from your face. Here are a few quick ideas to help make the most of your vampire costume:

Getting Started: The sophisticated look of the vampire is due to the stark contrast of the colors and the precision with which you apply them. Practice before the big night, especially if you are using makeup you don't normally wear. If you have sensitive skin, you may want to avoid Halloween makeup or theatrical makeup. Instead, purchase the lightest shade of foundation you can find, and use crushed eye shadow to make the colors you need.

Applying “Undead” Foundation: Your best bet for "undead" vampire makeup is to use mostly white with a bit of gray and a bit of dark green mixed in. Apply the paint with your fingertips or with a makeup sponge. You want enough foundation for good coverage, but be careful not to overdo it or you'll lose that eerie look. Remember to cover your neck, hands and other exposed skin.

The next step is to add some living-dead effects to your skin. Add some gray theatrical makeup under your cheekbones, at the temples and anywhere else you want a sunken look.

Adding the Details: Use spirit gum to cover up your eyebrows and draw in pencil thin ones, with an extensive arch with liquid eyeliner. Line your top and bottom lids with the same eyeliner. Use blood red lip stain for the perfect vampire lips. The more contrast you can create between your lips and your skin, the better. Trickle a bit of fake blood from the corner of your mouth for the ultimate Halloween vampire costume. Now, grab your fangs and cape, and have a great time!
