Five Scary Kids Halloween Costumes

If your children want scary kids Halloween costumes, you may be wondering what costumes you can make at home that will fit the bill. These kids Halloween costume ideas are simultaneously low-budget and scary.

Halloween Mummy
You can use either rolls of Ace bandages or rolls of high-quality toilet paper to wrap up your mummy. Save the bandages for a real emergency someday, or donate them to Goodwill when your child is done with his costume.

Halloween Witch
Invest in a cute black dress for your daughter (she can reuse it later with come adorable accessories to brighten it up), and then fashion a hat from clothes hangers and black material purchased at the fabric store. You can either buy a witch’s broom from a party store or let your daughter use a broom from your house, whichever you prefer.

The Grim Reaper
A black cloak and a staff is all that’s needed for this scary kids Halloween costume. Invest in a length of black cloth from the fabric store, and strategically drape the cloth such that it covers your child from head to toe. Have your child wear a black baseball cap under the robe so the hood will drape appropriately, hiding your child’s face from view. Dress your child in all black underneath the robe, and use black face paint to darken his face to enhance the effect of the costume. Find a big, sturdy stick in the woods for a staff.

Ghost Bride
Invest in an all-white dress for your daughter (which she can reuse in spring). Buy a length of tulle and a plastic tiara for a veil. Use white face paint or powder to make your child completely white, and then have her put on the dress and veil.

Skeleton
Dress your child in all black: You can purchase a long-sleeved black turtleneck, black pants, black gloves (look for the skimpy ones in the dollar bin), a black face mask (or ski mask) and black socks. All of these items can be reused as parts of your child’s regular wardrobe throughout the year. Buy a roll or two of glow-in-the-dark tape, which you can find at party stores during the Halloween season or online. Use the tape to make the bones of the skeleton right on your child’s clothing.
