Ideas for April Fools Day Cards

By: Alice Langholt

Want to celebrate April Fools Day with a card and a good prank? How about a combination? Here are some ideas for pranks that can be included inside April Fool's Day cards that will have the recipient wondering what is real and what is trickery.

The card itself is the prank
For an April Fools Day card that in itself plays a joke, take a piece of paper and decorate the outside with a fun April Fool's Day message. It could be "Have a Happy April Fools Day!" or anything that makes the card look as if there will be more inside. Then, glue the inside together so the card won't open. The trick is that the card doesn't open. The recipient tries and tries, but it won't open. April Fool!

E-cards for April Fools Day
Plenty of sources online will allow you to email an April Fools Day card to friends. There are cards with animation, sounds, and laughter. It's usually free, extremely easy, and you don't even have to write the joke - it's there for you. Remember though, if you send one, it's the recipient's turn to respond…so be on alert!

Cards with pranks inside
You can have one card give a clue that leads to another card, and another, and finally back to the first card very easily. Take the first card, and inside, tell the recipient to look in another place for a clue/surprise/etc. You can write the clue in verse or as a puzzle for your recipient to figure out. Then, he goes to the second place and finds the second card or clue. That clue should lead him to a third place, where he will discover the final clue. The final clue should point him back to the first clue with some kind of message like "That will keep you busy for a while!"

Another idea is to give the person an April Fools Day card but either leave it unsigned, so the recipient wonders who it came from, or sign someone else's name. If you choose to sign someone else's name, you have two choices. You can choose a real person that the recipient knows, or sign a generic name that will leave the recipient wondering who the person is and why they sent the card. Watching the recipient try to figure it out could be great fun and a harmless prank at the same time.
