Father's Day Crafts for Dads and Kids

By: Jaceson Maughan

Father's Day crafts are perfect for when kids want to show their father how much they love him, but they may not have a lot of money to purchase a gift. However, when kids make a Father's Day gift for their dad, it becomes extra-special because loving little hands made it.

Photo Gifts
Perhaps the most popular Father's Day crafts are picture frames. They can be decorated wooden frames, craft foam frames or even frames made of household items, such as old CDs, buttons or bottle caps. When the frame is filled with a child's picture, it becomes an instant treasure for any proud dad on Father's Day. Kids can also make a family photo collage comprised of different family photos and scrapbooking accessories mounted on a canvas board.

Functional Gifts
A pencil holder made from a soup can or plastic cup makes a wonderful accessory for the office, especially when young kids decorate it. Another office idea for Father's Day is decorated bookends, made of painted bricks with felt bottoms. A painted paperweight made of a smooth river rock will also add some color to his desk or work area.

Have kids paint a birdhouse with non-toxic paint to hang outside Dad's home office window. A decorative bank made out of a coffee can and plastic lid can collect all of his loose change. Refrigerator magnets made of craft clay, wooden cut-outs or other household items will keep him organized at home or at work.

Playful Gifts
Giving Dad something that he and the kids can do together is another fun idea for Father's Day gifts. Kids can make a homemade bingo set, complete with decorated cards and a jar full of pennies for markers. A family trivia game can be made by redecorating a traditional game board and swapping standard squares and cards for handmade versions. A coupon book full of favors, tasks and outings is another craft project that kids can make for Dad and can feature a trip to the ice cream store, a free yard work day and a foot massage.

All of these gifts are simple and require little or no money, yet they will show Dad how much his children love him.
