Simple and Fun Mother's Day Crafts for Kids

By: Caroline Roberts

Mother's Day crafts are ideal for little kids, especially since they are too small to go out and buy flowers or order something online. By giving common crafts a Mother's Day twist, kids can tell Mom how much they care.

Mother's Day Tote Bag
Since more people are bringing their own bags to the grocery, give Mom something she can use. Plain canvas bags are easy to find, and the kids will have tons of fun getting messy and decorating them.
Items You Will Need:
Newsprint
Plain light canvas tote bag
Fabric paints in various colors
Paintbrushes
Fabric markers and pens
Trays for holding the paints

After spreading out the newsprint on the floor, lay down the canvas tote, and let the kids dip their brushes in the paint. Make sure they leave a little blank space if they want to write messages to Mom with the fabric markers or pens.

Then let the canvas tote dry according to the paint directions. When it is finished, flip it over, and let the kids work on the other side. Leave enough time between the start of the project and Mother's Day for both sides to be decorated and dried.

Refrigerator Magnet Photos
Give Mom a little smile every time she goes to the fridge by putting an image of yourself in a magnetic photo frame.
Items You Will Need:
Large piece of cardboard
Photograph of yourself
Markers and crayons
Fabric, ribbons and lace
White glue
Magnet

Take the picture, and trace its shape onto the cardboard. An adult should cut out the picture with a box cutter or paper cutter. Repeat this process to create a second square of the same size.

Kids can draw or trace a smaller square or circle on the second square, and the adult should use the box cutter to cut it out. Hold the picture behind the second square so you can see through it to make sure the faces of the photo are visible. The second square has now become the frame.

Kids should then start drawing on and decorating the frame. They should also feel free to add small bits of fabric, ribbons or lace using glue, but they should give the fabric time to dry. As it dries, they can glue the photo to the cardboard square that is the back of the frame. Once everything is dry, they can glue the frame to the cardboard and the photo.

Last of all, glue a magnet strong enough to support the frame to the back. Once the glue has dried, place the frame on the refrigerator to surprise Mom on Mother's Day.

Mother's Day Coupons
Items You Will Need:
2 sheets of construction paper in pastel colors
Scissors
Markers
Crayons
Sample coupons from the Sunday paper

Using 2 sheets of construction paper, fold each piece of paper in half twice. Then unfold the paper, and fold it in half lengthwise. Using the scissors, cut along the folds to create 16 coupons, 8 from each sheet of paper.

Once the coupons are ready, let the kids start decorating with markers and crayons. They can look at the sample coupons for inspiration and create their own brands, such as "HUGS," "BUY ONE GET ONE FREE DISHWASHING," "BREAKFAST IN BED" or "FREE PEACE AND QUIET."

Let the kids put the coupons in a Mother's Day gift basket or tuck them inside their Mother's Day cards.
