New Year's Party and Game Ideas

By: Connie Earl Robertson

New Year's is a time for families, friends and businesses to celebrate the end of the old year and look forward to the clean slate of the New Year ahead of them. Although many of the New Year's party and game ideas include liquor, it is not a necessity. This type of party can be fun, and something that everyone who attends will remember for a long time.

A family-friendly party

This type of party can be as formal or as informal as you want it to be. In fact, there is no need for you to even decorate for it. Purchase a wide variety of materials that can be used to make decorations. Leave them in the center of the room on a long table. As your guests arrive, invite them to use their creativity to decorate the room for the party.

Serve pizza with breadsticks and a tossed green salad. Purchase sparkling apple cider to use to toast the New Year in. Purchase disposable plates, silverware and cups in order to cut clean-up to a minimum.

Games

Many people like to give presents for New Year's, making this a great game idea for a party. You will need one die, a hat, a pair of gloves and a gift, wrapped in several boxes or several layers of newspaper. Have your guests stand in a circle and put the gloves, hat and gift box in the center. Have one of the guests roll the die.

When a guest rolls a six, they must hurry into the center, put on the gloves and hat and start unwrapping the gift. They must hurry because the next guest who rolls a six must enter the circle. The first guest must stop unwrapping the gift and give the next guest the hat and gloves. This is repeated until the gift is totally unwrapped. The guest who finishes unwrapping it is the winner and gets to take it home.

Another classic game for a New Year's party is musical chairs. It works just as well for adults as it does for children. Have a table in the center of the circle with a variety of wrapped gifts for men or women. Place two chairs less in the circle than there are guests. When the music stops two people will be eliminated. Continue this until there are only two guests left. Both can choose a gift.
