Dumb New Year's resolutions can go either way for most people. A resolution to lose weight might be dumb for someone that doesn't need to lose weight (but thinks she does), but it's not so dumb for the person that needs to lose weight. On the dumb side of the scale, making any resolution that you know you're not going to keep could be classified as a dumb resolution.
Choosing Workable Resolutions
When making a New Year's resolution, choose one that is not impossible for you to keep, or to achieve. Any resolution that is made to improve your life or your health is a good resolution, assuming that the resolution is within reason. An example of a dumb resolution would be to lose 100 pounds in two months. Not only is it close to impossible, and potentially dangerous, but you would most likely gain the weight back as soon as you hit your goal and started eating normally again.
Other dumb resolutions include those resolutions that will hurt you, such as resolutions to try smoking, try drugs or drink wine every night. While drinking wine every night is not damaging to most people, there are some that shouldn't do this because they take medications or have problems with alcohol.
Will You Keep It?
When making New Year's resolutions, take into consideration your circumstances, and whether the resolution can be completed in a reasonable amount of time, if at all. The resolution can be difficult for you to master, but be sure to give yourself enough time to complete it successfully, otherwise you will be setting yourself up for failure.
If it's possible, find a friend or a family member to share your resolution. Nothing helps you meet your goals for the new year like having the support and sympathy of someone close. You'll be able to lean on each other for reassurance when it's needed and you'll likely form a closer bond as the two of you strive to reach your goal.
Funny New Year's resolutions can involve a serious effort at self-improvement. It's all about the attitude you take as you try to meet your goals.
