Festive Adult Christmas Party Games and Activities

By: Jennifer Maughan

Most people dread the adult Christmas party games at the office bash or family get-together. The reputation of adult party games is that they are cheesy and often boring. However, good Christmas games can transform a stuffy party into a memorable event, and several of these adult party games may soon become a tradition.

Reindeer Games
Few people can resist Rudolph. Give each team a pair of nylons, eight balloons and a tube of red lipstick. The teams must race to inflate the balloons and put them into the panty hose. When the balloons have stiffened the legs of the nylon stockings, one member must put them on his head, simulating reindeer antlers. The red lipstick makes a shiny red nose for the player. The first team to shout "Rudolph" and produce a proper Rudolph wins.

Christmas Carol Charades
You can't go wrong with a twist on charades. Place 15 to 20 Christmas carol titles into a bowl, and divide into teams with even players. The first team member draws out a carol, keeping it secret. Using actions only, the team member tries to give clues to the title. The team members have 2 minutes to guess the right Christmas carol, or the other team can steal the turn and make a guess. Whichever team has the most points at the end is the winner.

Crazy Night Before Christmas
Bring "Mad Libs" and Christmas together this year. Prepare the famous poem beforehand, but leave out at least one or two words on each line. Don't tell the guests what you are doing. Then, ask guests to provide you with some descriptive words: Ask for a noun, verb, adjective or adverb as needed. For example, "Twas the (noun) before Christmas and all through the (noun)." Write the suggested word in the blank spaces of the poem. When all guests have contributed and there are no more blanks, surprise them and read the newest crazy version of the poem aloud.

Antique Toys
Sometimes the best Christmas ideas involve nostalgia. Locate pictures of 10 to 15 famous toys throughout the last 100 years, such as a Shirley Temple doll, Slinky, an Evel Knievel action figure or Tickle Me Elmo. Note the dates the toys hit the market. Mount the pictures on construction paper, and number the pictures. Hang them in a central area or around the office, and then instruct guests to write down the year the toys came out. The guest with the most correct guesses wins.
