Hosting a teen party is not an easy thing to do. For it to be a success, you will need to enlist your teen's help. By sharing the workload, the planning and preparation can be enjoyable for you both. Here are some ideas for being a good host for a teen party.
The budget
As with any type of entertainment activity, the first thing you need to do is establish a budget. Once that is done, the limits have been set for the type of party your teen can have and what he can plan for entertainment. Guide him in the planning and help him stay within the budget.
Determine who will be invited
According to the budget that has already been determined, decide how many teens can actually be invited. Go over the guest list with your teen. Don't allow him to invite people you don't know or with whom you are not comfortable.
Plan the party
Determine exactly what you want the guests to do while they will be there. Decide on what food will be served. Predetermine what time the party will end.
Greet the guests
As each guest arrives, make it a point to greet them personally. Make each one feel that they are special. Do your best to remember names so you can use their name during the activities.
Set the party rules
Make sure that everyone understands the party rules. Teens should know that no cigarettes, drugs or alcohol are permitted. Explain to them what rooms in the house are off limits. Make sure they understand that if they leave the party for any reason, they will not be allowed to return. Lights must remain on at all times.
Make cleanup easy
The worst part of hosting a party is often the cleanup. Make things easy by using plastic cups, nice paper plates and plastic silverware. Have a large trash can available where the guests can toss the things they use when they are finished. Make sure you have plenty of extras.
Send out cards
Be sure to be on hand to tell each guest good-bye when the party is over. During the week following the party, send out thank-you cards, telling your guests how much you appreciate their coming. If they did anything special to help or obeyed the rules exceptionally well, be sure to mention it in the card.
