Baby Shower Decorating Ideas

By: Belinda J Mooney

Good baby shower decorating ideas reflect the joy of planning for a new baby. Not only are you helping the mother-to-be get a head start on gathering supplies, but you can also increase the anticipation for baby's arrival. These following ideas can help you set the right tone.

Color Schemes: Knowing the sex of the expected child can help you pick a color scheme if you want to go with the traditional pink or blues. However, you can also look at the bedding pattern that the mother has chosen for her child, and take the colors from that for a color scheme she is sure to appreciate.

Baby Items: To add baby flair to the room, you can take some clothes line and decorative pastel clothes pins. To find these pins, check your local craft stores, as they have many wonderful baby-shower-themed items. String the clothes line across the room, and pin baby items like pacifiers, baby socks and bonnets to it. You can even take diapers with letters on each of them spelling out "baby shower" or "Welcome [baby's name]" to the clothes line.

Diaper Cakes: For a centerpiece, one baby shower idea is a "Diaper Cake." This cake is made from diapers, each rubber-banded to make it into a cylinder. Then bunches of them are bound together with ribbon to make the shape of a cake. You can make the diaper cake in tiers like a wedding cake, and then you "decorate" the cake with baby items like pacifiers, booties, socks, rattles, teethers and bottles. Top the diaper cake with a soft plush toy, and you have a striking centerpiece that the mother can take apart when she needs the items.

Personalized Baby Shower Favors: Planning for baby shower parties would not be complete without personalized baby shower favors, which can also double as table or room decorations. Consider small votive candle holders, small scented candles, pastel netting (tulle) from a fabric store, ribbon and cardstock. On the cardstock, print a picture that goes with the theme and a special message. Regardless of what favor you choose, your guests and mother-to-be will appreciate the effort of keepsakes commemorating the baby's arrival.
