When you are making plans for a baptism party, don't overlook baptism cakes.
A baptism cake can be fancy or simple, as long as there is enough to feed each guest. If you are ordering the cake, let them know how many guests you are planning on and the baker can guide you in the proper size. If you plan on making your own, follow the recipe instructions for yield and simply make sure you have enough for everyone. You may need to make several cakes for a large group at a baptism party.
Shape Cakes
Cakes that are baked in fancy shapes are a big hit at baptism parties. You can purchase cake molds at most baking or catering supply stores in the shape of a cross, the Bible or a dove. You'll bake the cake normally, then invert the cake on the display tray. Decorate the cake according to instructions using a cake decorating bag and tips. If you are a cake expert, you can also make cut out cakes. That's when you cut away pieces of a rectangular or round cake to make a shape. Crosses are very easy to do as cut out cakes.
Decorated Cakes
Make a cake in a traditional shape but decorate it to reflect the happiness a baptism brings. Prepare two round cakes, then stack and frost them with white frosting. Pipe on a cross using a star-tipped cake decorating bag in a soft color, such as pastel blue, pink or yellow. Or, frost a cake in pale yellow and purchase small figurines to sit on top, such as an open Bible or a little angel. Even simple flowers are elegant and sweet for a baptism cake.
Commercial Cakes
Bakeries offer a wide range of fancy baptism cakes with intricate cake decorating techniques. You can select almost every color imaginable, as well as purchase cake toppers that best reflect the day. Another modern technique in professional bakeries is a photo cake. Simply bring in a photo of the child and the bakery can create an image out of colored sugar to place on top of the cake. It's completely edible and a wonderful way to personalize the reception.
Baptisms are Christian ceremonies that uses water to symbolize purification and allow the recipient into the membership of God's church. This is also a momentous event for friends and family to attend. Whether the baptism is for infants, older children or adults depends on the Christian denomination and its beliefs about this cleansing ritual. |
A godparent takes on a specific role in the raising of a child. Being asked to be a godparent is an honor, but you need to understand the role fully before you accept. |
