Outdoor Bonfire Party Games

Outdoor bonfire party games entertain, but they also bring a sense of fellowship and fun.

Plans for Activities
Remember: safety first! Establish a perimeter around the fire and keep activities a safe distance away. Several factors need to be taken into consideration when planning activities and games for a bonfire.

  • Age of attendees. Obviously, party games for a group of youngsters or teens will differ from those planned for adults. While some activities are for all ages, plan accordingly so all guests have an opportunity for fun.
  • Time of day. Athletic contests are difficult to play when the sun goes down. If the bonfire begins later in the evening, consider games that involve a bit of creativity.
  • Surroundings. The beach may be crowded and room limited. Plan to make necessary adjustments if the beach overflows with people.

Athletic Contests
Want to kick start the party? How about some relaxed athletic games? Try some of these options:

  • Beach Volleyball
  • Croquet
  • Flashlight Tag
  • Football
  • Frisbee
  • Hide -n Seek
  • Kite Flying
  • Tug of War
  • Yard Darts

Sand Solutions
Get artistic with the sand. There's plenty of it to go around.

  • Build sand castles
  • Bury a person or object in the sand
  • Collect seashells

Bonfire Buzz
Once darkness falls and guests move closer to the fire, think about starting one of these classics:

  • Ghost Stories. Each person tells a spooky story.
  • Gossip. It's the classic telephone game where one person whispers something to the person seated next to him or her. The gossip continues around the circle and the last player says the line aloud.
  • Sing-Along. Plenty of good campfire songs exist.
  • Truth or Lies. Each person tells two truths and one lie about themselves. Others decide which fact is a lie. After all guesses, the person reveals what's true and false.

The next time you decide to host a beach party, plan several outdoor bonfire party games and have fun with your guests.
