Hosting a Birthday Tea Party for Your Little Princess

By: Jenney Cheever

A birthday tea party is just the thing to celebrate the birthday of the special little girl in your life. Perfect for little ladies that love all things pink and girlie, a princess tea party will give all your young guests a chance to dress up and pretend to be real princesses. Here are some ideas to make your party truly memorable.

Dress It Up
Before the party, gather up a collection of fancy dress-ups, such as old prom gowns, costume jewelry, fancy hats, tiaras and gloves. You can find all sorts of inexpensive costumes at thrift stores and discount stores. Have a dressing area at the party, so that when guests arrive they can get themselves all dolled up in pretty princess attire.

Set the Stage
For decorations, think pink and girlie! Treat your little guests to a fancy table set with linens, tea set and a floral centerpiece. A little glitter sprinkled on the table for sparkle is a nice touch. Don't forget fancy place cards for each princess.

Entertain your princesses with a fun, princess-themed craft, such as decorating paper crowns, or making fancy paper fans. There are plenty of princess craft ideas in the kids' section of your local craft store or at the party supply store. You can also entertain your guests with a few princess stories; stick to old classics like Cinderella and The Princess and the Pea, or try some more modern princess tales, like The Paper Bag Princess and Princess Smartypants.

A Royal Meal
Serve your pretty princesses an elegant menu of tiny tea sandwiches, little cookies and scones. Cut the sandwiches into fancy shapes with cookie cutters. Make the tea something kid-friendly, such as a fruity herbal tea, and offer apple juice or lemonade for those who aren't fond of tea.

The piece de resistance of any birthday party is the cake. A castle-shaped cake, with stacked cupcakes and upside-down sugar cones for turrets, would be fitting. If you're not that ambitious, then any type of pink, flowery confection will do. Just make sure it's fit for a princess and her court!

When the party is over, don't forget to send your guests home with a princess-themed party favor. You might choose to give a little bag filled with beaded necklaces, gloves and other girlie items, or perhaps some princess-themed stickers and stationery.
