On the Thanksgiving holiday, large crowds are often together, with kids running around and adults mingling. Why not spice up Thanksgiving Day fun with some Thanksgiving party games? Here are some ideas that fun seekers can enjoy together. For some of them, the prep work can be done by the kids for a craft project.
For the Little Ones: Pin the Feathers on Tom Turkey
Have a picture of a turkey on the wall. Make paper feathers and one wattle, putting a tape loop sticky-side out on the back of each. Give one feather each to the players. Give the oldest player the wattle. Tie a blindfold or scarf around the first person's eyes, spin him or her three times, and point the player in the direction of the turkey. Give everyone a prize for dressing the turkey!
For the Younger Crowd: Leaf Pile Plunder
Rake up a large pile of leaves, and hide wrapped candy and small toy prizes inside all throughout the pile. Give each player a small bag. On the count of three, every player dives in and tries to find the most booty to fill their bag.
For the Tweens & Teens: Flour Tag
Have each player wear a black or dark colored shirt. Give each player a stocking sock with about ½ cup of flour in the toe, tied in a knot to close the flour in. Everyone tries to tag another person as many times as possible in the 5-minute time period for the round. At the end of the round, whoever has the least flour marks on his or her shirt wins. Wipe off flour marks with a damp paper towel and go on to round 2! Play as many rounds as desired, and keep score!
For All: Turkey Hunt
Decorate a paper bag like a turkey and stuff it with treats and trinkets. Hide it somewhere for the players to search and find. Not too easy, not too hard, depending on the ages of the players. Then, let the players all find the turkey! Whoever finds it can share the "stuffing" with all who played.
Thanksgiving brings us thoughts of the comforts of home, but the holiday exists today thanks to the arrival of the Pilgrims on these shores, and their trip here was a long way from comfortable. |
