You can create cool turkey crafts that are sure to look fine long after your turkey dinner is done. This 3-D turkey is fun and will make a beautiful centerpiece or a great wall hanging at your Thanksgiving family gathering.
To begin, find a clean work area and cover your table or floor with newspaper. This will make cleanup time quick and easy. Collect all of your supplies before you start.
Materials Needed:
2 white paper plates
12 or more colored feathers
Glue
Scissors
Stapler
Markers
Crayons
Yarn or string
Hole punch (optional)
Pumpkin, fruit, grapes (optional)
Once you have collected all of your supplies, it's time to begin. Take one of the paper plates and cut out the center. After the center is removed the plate should look like a wreath. Using the second paper plate, draw a long neck with a head attached, then draw two legs with webbed feet attached. These shapes will make up the major part of the turkey's body.
Staple the neck and head section to the top of the wreath shaped plate, then staple the feet to the bottom of the wreath shaped body. Find your brown crayon and lightly color in all of the white paper plate body parts. This will give the turkey a layer of color to build on.
It's feather time. Glue down all of your feathers all around the wreath, mixing up the colors. The more feathers the better; your turkey will look more natural and colorful. Once the circular turkey body is covered with feathers move on to decorate the turkey's head and feet. On the chin area of the head draw a long red wattle. You can make the webbed feet more interesting by outlining them with a marker.
When you feel that your turkey is colorful and you are excited about the final results, you will need to decide if you want to hang it up or use it as a centerpiece on your table. Discuss these ideas with your parents. If you decide to hang your turkey, poke a hole in the top center of the body and loop a piece of yarn or string through it. It would look wonderful hanging in your window. If you chose to use the colorful turkey as a centerpiece, roll up some masking tape and attach the turkey to one side of the pumpkin. This makes a wonderful display. If you put the pumpkin on a plate or tray first, then attach the turkey to one side of the pumpkin and stack up other fruits and grapes on the opposite side of the pumpkin; it will make a wonderful centerpiece. Again, ask your parents for their advice; they may want to help you with the final placement of your cool turkey project.
I'm sure this turkey will make a wonderful conversation piece at your family's Thanksgiving Day gathering. Happy Thanksgiving.
