Here are some easy steps to make homemade valentine window decorations. They are simple, low cost, and re-usable. You will need some basic supplies.

  • white glue of any brand
  • tape optional
  • paint of your color choice, recommended is red
  • scissors
  • wax paper
  • puffy paint either black or color to match your paint choice. You can get it at any local craft store usually under a dollar.
  • something to use as a  paint pallet. A paper plate works well or extra piece of wax paper, or any plastic disposable container.
  • small paint brush
  • marker, pencil, or crayon any color
  • plain paper  An old brown grocery sack works well also.

You will need to make your patterns first. Using your pencil or marker draw several different heart shapes on your blank paper. You can make these all one size of varied. You may also draw puff letter outlines if you want to write "happy valentines day".  Then cut the patterns into individual pieces. You may separate your letters or keep them in one piece. If you separate them you can vary the spacing later to fill in your window area.

Next cut pieces of wax paper to cover your pattern pieces. If you have tape secure them so they don't move, otherwise be careful to keep the pieces together. Then you make take your puffy paint and outline the pattern piece onto the wax paper. You will need to let these dry before going to the next step. If your are really impatient you can dry them quickly with a hair dryer.

You now need to mix your paint and glue. This lets the the paint hold its shape. Place 2 tablespoons of glue on your paint pallet and mix in a few drops of paint. Keep adding the paint till you get the color you want. Use this mixture to paint the inside of your designs. Make sure to make a good solid layer of the colored glue so it will dry solid. Place your valentine decorations on a flat surface to dry. These usually take a full 24 hours to dry completely.

After the paint is dry, peel the shapes off of the wax paper. You may now stick them to any  smooth surface such as window or mirror. They will also stick to a computer screen if you want to decorate the corner or such.  If you have trouble getting them to stick, wet the back of valentine decorations with water or dish soap.

To store your valentine decorations for later use, simply peel off and stick to wax paper or freezer wrap and store in an air tight  container.
