It's not hard to create fun and special Valentine's Day gifts. Since the holiday is so close to our heart, so why not fill it with a mobile of hearts for everyone to enjoy? This beautiful Valentine mobile will brighten any room-not just on February 14th, but all year long. To begin, collect all of your supplies and clear a spot on your desk or the kitchen table for your work area.
Supplies Needed
1 clothes hanger or small dowel
1 or 2 sheets of red, pink and white paper
Glitter, stickers, tinsel (optional)
Markers or crayons
Yarn or thread
Glue
Tape
Pencil and scissors
Start by folding your white construction paper in half and then drawing half of a heart, beginning on the fold line. Save all of your scraps, since you will use them to make additional, but smaller, hearts.
Take one of your small scrap pieces and fold it in half and square it off. Again, on the fold line draw another half of a heart, cutting it out on your pencil line. This time when you save your scraps use the scrap outline of the heart and follow its shape around to cut out a heart silhouette. Now continue to make hearts of all shapes and sizes with your scraps, and then move on to the red and pink paper and make more hearts. Having many different sizes and shapes of hearts will make your mobile more interesting. I also layered some hearts on top of other hearts and then laid some of my silhouette hearts so that they overlapped each other. Use your imagination and creativity.
Before you assemble your mobile on your hanger or stick, you should have a collection of 20 or more hearts. Lay your hearts out on your table and see how you would like your mobile design to look before you glue anything down. When you are ready, begin by gluing together any heart within a heart shape and the heart silhouettes so that they will be ready to be taped to the yarn.
Attach 2 or 3 pieces of yarn that are 2 feet long to the hanger. This is what you will use to tape the hearts on to. You can change your heart pattern from each strand of yarn.
When all of the hearts are glued and then taped onto the yarn hanging from the hanger, it's time to add any finishing touches of glitter, stickers, crayons or markers to the hearts. You may want to write love messages on some of your hearts. Don't forget to decorate both sides of the hearts because when your mobile is hanging the hearts will gently blow and dance around.
When you are finished with your heart mobile, you can give it as a gift to someone you love, or you can hang it in your room or family room for everyone to enjoy and admire. Happy heart-filled Valentines Day.
