Easy Room Makeover Projects

Whether you have a day, a weekend or a month, you can accomplish a room makeover.

While home remodeling may seem intimidating, there are many simple room makeover projects that you can easily accomplish yourself in a relatively short period of time. Of course, if you can enlist the help of friends or, if budget allows, hire a pro, you can complete them even faster.

Here are a few simple room makeover ideas to get you started:

Projects for a day
One of the quickest and cheapest ways to change a room is with a fresh coat of paint. Changing the color of the room can make it appear fresh and new. The difference can be dramatic depending on your choice of color and application. Don't be afraid to try one of the popular new painting techniques such as faux painting or glazing. Many of them are easier than you'd think and can give your room a designer look. Look for instruction sheets in your local home improvement store.

Another one-day room makeover project is to add decorative trim. Accenting a room with crown molding or a chair railing is a great way to add architectural detail. In order to save time and money on painting and staining, you can purchase pre-finished trim.

Changing your kitchen or bathroom faucets can also be accomplished in a day. It can dramatically change the look of a room and, if you're handy, it's a relatively easy project to tackle on your own. To be on the safe side, however, especially if your home has older plumbing, this is an upgrade where you may be better off to call in a pro.

Projects for a weekend
If you have a whole weekend for a room makeover, there are slightly more involved projects you can tackle. For example, repainting or re-staining your cabinetry can make it look like you have a brand new kitchen. Another idea is to replace the sink in your kitchen and/or bathroom. You may want to go for a trendier look. For example, consider one of the new bowl-type sinks that sit atop the counter.

Projects for a month
You can accomplish even more if you have a whole month to spend on a room makeover project. Consider replacing your kitchen cabinets for a whole new look. Or replace your appliances with new ones in a stainless-steel finish or with paneling to match your cabinetry. And, for a dramatic transformation, you may want to upgrade your flooring from linoleum to ceramic tile or carpeting to hardwood.

A room makeover project does not have to involve tens of thousands of dollars or months of inconvenience. Sometimes a little can go a long way when it comes to making a huge difference in your home.
