Getting Rid of Ants Naturally

By: Maeve Rich

Getting rid of ants naturally can help you to keep the insects out of your home. Ants can be annoying and can find ways into your home that you would never imagine. If ants have invaded your home and you're looking for a way to get rid of them without using chemicals, here are some tips to help you get rid of ants naturally.

An obvious first step to getting rid of ants naturally is to cut off their food supply. Make sure that you're keeping food off of countertops and tables where ants can easily get to it. Keep fruit in the refrigerator to avoid luring ants. Put food away well, in tight containers, and keep bags sealed. Make sure that crumbs aren't left on countertops, tables or the floor. Take your trash out regularly, and don't leave the bag inside your home or garage, where it may be appealing to ants.

If you know where the ants are living, get rid of their home. You don't necessarily have to kill the ants, but you should thoroughly take care of their home. One way to do this is with a little lemon juice and water.

Spices can work wonders in keeping ants out of your home. You can use red chili pepper, black pepper, cinnamon or paprika to keep ants out of your house. Just leave a little bit near where the ants are getting in to stop them.

Baby powder is another easy ant repellent. Put some on ant trails or on the ants themselves to deter them from coming into your home.

You can also attempt to stop the ants from getting into your home in the first place by eliminating their entryway. You can seal cracks in walls and floors to prevent the ants from having a way to get in.

If you have flowerbeds near your home, you may want to consider changing the type of flowers you're growing, especially if everything else you're doing is ineffective. Sweet flowers, those that give off sugar based products, can attract ants, as well as other types of bugs.
