Dry Method of Carpet Cleaning

By: Gene Rodriguez, III

Carpet cleaning extends the life of your carpet and creates a healthy home environment. The dry method of carpet cleaning is a fast, effective way to clean your carpets that involves a minimal use of water.

What's In Your Dirty Carpet?
A quality vacuum will get 80% to 90% of the dirt in your carpet. In fact, vacuuming is the most effective carpet cleaning method. But what about the other 10% to 20% of dirt left behind by a vacuum?

The material left behind by a vacuum cleaner often contains oil, grease or moisture that binds the dirt to the carpet.

The Power of Powder
The first step in dry carpet cleaning is to remove as much material from the carpet as possible using a high-powered vacuum. Any stains on the carpet should be spot cleaned and allowed to dry.

After vacuuming and stain treating, the carpet is covered with a powdered cleaning material. This powder is either pre-moistened or sprayed lightly with water or a cleaning solution after application.

The powder is machine bushed into the carpet and allowed to set. As the powder rests, it absorbs and removes the oily or greasy material from the carpet fibers. After a specified time, the powder is removed from the carpet using a high-powered vacuum.

The Dry Carpet Advantage
Because dry carpet cleaning uses very little water, your carpets will be dry and usable in as little as two hours. Considered a "controlled moisture" application, dry carpet cleaning will not saturate your carpet like hot water or steam cleaning.

Excessive moisture can lead to separation of the carpet fiber from the backing. An overly damp carpet also runs the risk of developing mold or mildew in the padding.

Dry carpet cleaning leaves no residue, extending the time between cleanings.
