When it's time to clean the house, there are certain problems we seem to face over and over again. Believe it or not, there are some tips and tricks that you would never expect that make these situations much easier to get through. The best solutions for the most common household cleaning problems aren't always obvious -- but knowing them can save you time and stress!
Removing pet urine from carpeting
Pet urine stains can leave lingering odors if you're not careful, but this trick should flush it entirely out of the carpet. Blot the area with paper towels until it is dry, then rinse with some water and dry it again. Dilute some vinegar in water, then finally rinse with the mixture, and blot dry one last time. When the spot is completely dry, sprinkle baking soda over the area, leave it for five to 10 minutes, and vacuum it out.
Removing blood stains
No matter how they occurred, blood stains are notoriously difficult to get out. The sooner you get to work on the stain, the better your results should be. Sprinkle meat tenderizer on the stain, then apply some cold water and leave it to soak for 20 minutes or so. Afterward, a cool sponge should be able to remove it successfully.
Microwave residue
The older those splotches on the walls of your microwave are, the more difficult they are to remove. Luckily, this trick will loosen up that gunk and let you wipe it up with ease. Microwave a wet sponge for two minutes, then leave it in there for another 5 minutes. When you remove the sponge, the dirt and food caked to the sides of your microwave should suddenly be easy to wipe off.
Removing candle wax from carpeting
Candle wax in the carpet might seem impossible to remove, but there's a quick fix that should make it much easier. Apply a sealed plastic bag full of ice to the wax so that it hardens as much as possible, then scrape off with a knife. If color remains in the carpet, dilute 1 part rubbing alcohol in 2 parts water. Apply a small amount to the spot, then blot it dry. Repeat until the stain is removed.
