House Cleaning Remedies That Help You Clean Quicker

By: Dr. Zoe Simmons

Who has time to spend hours or even an hour to clean anymore? Don't we all wish we could just snap our fingers or blink or eyes and have the work finished? Here are a few house cleaning remedies to get the job done in a jiffy.

Preload trash bags
This tip here came compliments from my seven-year-old son. One of his chores is to take the trash out daily after supper. He never liked the idea having to put a new bag in, until one day I saw him putting multiple bags. To my surprise, it does save a few minutes of time. Now he has more time to play video games. I took this step a little further and poured some dry potpourri at the bottom. Now each time a bag is pulled, no more garbage smell--a nice fragrant smell will fill up your area.

Serve up fluffy comforters
After washing your down comforters or bringing them home from the dry cleaners, are they flat and lacking that nice fluffy feel? The secret to solving the unflattering flatness is to throw the down comforter into your dryer with some tennis balls. Your comforter wil come out fluffed and beautiful.

Dryer sheets to the rescue
Do you realize how often you dust your television and computer screens, only to come back to more and more dust? It never seems to go away. You can fix that now with your used dryer sheets. Wipe your screens down and see how long it takes before you have to clean them again. I use this technique with all my furniture, as my daughter suffers from asthma.

Preventative home maintenance is as important a part of frugality as being a careful shopper. In today's consumption-based economy, it seems that our philosophy has changed. Our parents and grandparents fixed things. My grandparents had a refrigerator for more than 30 years. In our disposable culture, we throw things away, almost without a second thought, replacing them with the next of a usually long succession of similar items.
