Cast aside thoughts of having a dull, lifeless bathroom in your apartment and go with a central theme that appeals to you. If you're a true romantic at heart, consider the beautiful and stylish romantic theme.
Romantic theme
Romantic and white go hand in hand, so decorate your bathroom in a simple, romantic style if you are so inclined. This theme is a winner and spells calm and serenity all around! If you have a window in your bathroom, make a simple window treatment by using a gauzy white scarf. To make it even more special and uniquely you, consider using white sconces to thread the scarf through. If that is not to your liking, then try knotting the scarf over hooks. Both ways work equally as well. If you don't have a window (as so many bathrooms in apartment do not), find a way to drape a white scarf across the top of the door, mirror, cabinet or anywhere else in the room.
Don't forget all the extras that help pull a room together. Buy soft, fluffy towels and washcloths in white or cream and purchase a soap dish in a shade of white with perhaps a lacy pattern on it. Silver lends itself to romance as well, so you may prefer to forego a white soap dish, toothbrush holder, etc. and buy a set of silver accessories. For the finishing touches, add romantic candles in white or cream colors (scented or not, although vanilla is particularly romantic) and surround your candles with crushed potpourri. Pillar candles are very classy looking in a bathroom, as are candles of varying sizes.
Unique, old looking perfume bottles (especially ones with the appearance of crushed glass) and dusting powder completes the romantic decor of your bathroom.
Other themes
There are so many other themes that I could go on and on talking about them. Let's see, just to name a few more, there's the French country theme, the clean black-and-white theme, the flower-power theme, the vintage "blast from the past" theme and so many more. Let your imagination rule.
And even if you're not into anything overly dramatic or wild and prefer the clean and simple look over anything else, remember you can still enliven your bathroom with bursts of color. As an example, consider gentle, muted colors such as light green, baby blue, lilac or the palest pink. These colors are relaxed and easy on the eyes. What more could you ask for?
Always keep in mind the role that accessories play in your bathroom theme. Never downplay their significance. Items such as towels, washcloths, soap dishes, toothbrush holders, bath mats, candles and the shower curtain are all of paramount importance. When stretched wide open, a shower curtain commands an important role in the room.
And don't forget your bare walls when you are decorating. Posters, framed photos and signs can all play an essential role in your bathroom theme.
Whatever your particular brand of creativity is, you can let it shine by your choice of bathroom theme. Whatever you choose to go with, just make sure it will put a smile on your face!
